Before you begin

Permissions	Camera (for receipt scanning), Face ID / Touch ID (optional)

Get started in 5 steps

Download Spend Sense from the App Store

Search for Spend Sense or tap the direct App Store link. The app is free to download — no payment required to start.

Complete the onboarding flow

Open the app and you'll be greeted with a 3-step setup wizard:

Choose your default currency (supports 150+ currencies)
Pick a monthly budget start date (1st of month, or your payday)
Optionally enable Face ID / Touch ID for app lock

You can change all of these later in Settings.

Log your first transaction

Tap the large + button at the bottom of the screen. Enter an amount, pick a category, and optionally add a note or photo receipt. Tap Save. That's it — your first transaction is now recorded locally on your device.

Set a monthly budget

Navigate to the Budget tab. Tap Set Budget and enter your monthly income and spending limits per category. Spend Sense will automatically track your progress as you log transactions throughout the month.

Scan a receipt (optional)

Tap the camera icon on the main screen. Point your phone at any printed receipt. Spend Sense's on-device OCR will extract the total, date, and merchant name — no upload, no server, no privacy risk.

Best Practice

Recommended first week: Log every purchase manually for 7 days, no matter how small. This builds a habit and gives the analytics engine accurate baselines for your spending insights.

Common first-day questions

Do I need to connect my bank account?

No. Spend Sense is 100% manual-entry and camera-based. Bank account connections are never required and not currently offered by design — your bank credentials never touch our systems.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

All data is stored locally in encrypted form on your device. Deleting the app removes all data unless you have iCloud backup enabled. Export a CSV first if you want to preserve your history.

Can I use Spend Sense on multiple iPhones?

Yes — enable iCloud Sync in Settings to keep your data in sync across all your Apple devices via end-to-end encrypted CloudKit.
